Playing table top games

The game I chose was called "Pirate in a Bag".The game consist 2-4 players.
The components in the game require you to have
-one sheet of tokens
-90 cards:
(12 location cards)
(10 characters and ships)
(27 rumor cards)
 (41 treasure cards)
-12 dice
-Rule book

The only way to win the game is to win frames:
-winning a ship battle gets you 1 frame.
- Buying Treasure Island gives you 10 gold or two treasure cards per frame.
-Killing Davy Jones gives you 3 frames.
-Sinking a ghost ship gives you 2 frames.
-Removing a skeleton form a Port gives you 1 frame.
-Conquering a port gives you 1 frame.
- or eliminating the other player from the game gives you 2 frames.

The game felt so confusing at first, but what I learned from the rules and by playing the game was that you must conquer the Islands, take down you opponent and win as many frames as possible.
The recommendation for this game to people would be for teens rather than little kids because its so complex, that you need to try understand because its mostly strategy and knowing what cards to use on your opponent. Also you had to and buying supplies, taking other people islands or sinking their ship. What I like about this game was that it had a pirate theme. Also the drawing were front the Pirates of the Caribbean Lego set. I also enjoy having fun conquering and taking my friends stuff. The thing that I dislike about the game is that, the tokens were hard to cut because they were very small and needed to cut them perfectly.

The next game I play was called K.O. Arena
It consist of 17 players
The game requirements are:
-17 icons of the characters ( each player choose one character)
- A 6 sided dice
-Play mat
-cards (The card consist of the icon characters move sets.)
The point in the game is to try to kick your opponent off the stage to the side of the play mat.
In the game we had six people playing. The icon I choose was Yoshy duck because it had a really funny drawing of Yoshi. Each of my friends had to choose there characters to. Then we placed are characters on the play map. Next we need to role a dice to see who goes first.
During the game we had to try to kick are opponent out of the play mat by rolling a dice. We had to use are playing card to use are move. The playing cards consist the  move sets and character icon on the card.
Near the end of the game I came in 5 place because my friend rolled a 2 and kicked me out of the stage because I was the on e closes to her.
I felt that the game was kinda cheat because its where you place your character on the map your opponent might be next to and try to get a high roll and knock you out of the game. What I do like about the game is that it look like smash but the drawing and the words of the charters were so funny.

Week #5 True Grit

“True Grit”, is a story that takes place in Arkansas.  A fourteen year-old girl named Mattie Ross seeks retribution from her father’s murderer. Mattie Ross’ father sold ponies because he heard that it was a good trade to be in and be able to raise a family on.  He had hired a man, Tom Chaney, as help.  He was from Louisiana.  He was a short man with a cruel feature and who carried a rifle.

One night Tom Chaney got drunk and lost all his money in a card game in a barroom.  He wanted to get his money back because he felt cheated.  When he went out with his rifle, Mattie’s father tried to stop him.  Tom Chaney ignored him and instead shot Mattie’s father in the head with his rifle.  He leaves town with his rifle and later joins an outlaw gang.

So, what will become of Mattie when she hears about her father’s death? Will she go after the man who used to work for her father and kill him for revenge? The book describes Mattie’s ordeal to find and kill her father’s murderer.

The movie made from the book starts in the Old West as the narrator, Mattie Ross, talks about her father’s death and the revenge to kill Tom Chaney.  In the movie, the town people treat her like a kid.  She tries to get help and ends up paying $50 to a marshal to hunt Tom Chaney and to bring her along.  Even though the marshal tells her to stay home because she had no right to come along with him, she still goes along.  In the story, there is another character named La Boeuf.  He was a bounty hunter from Texas. He wanted to bring Tom Chaney back to Texas for other crimes. Towards the end of the movie, Mattie ends up killing Tom Chaney with his own rifle to the chest.  As the gun backfires, she falls into a snake hole. The hole had a dead body and was full of rattlesnakes.   She gets bit on her arm by a rattlesnake. The marshal rescues Mattie out of the snake hole.  Mattie tells the marshal that she was bitten.  Both of them race back on Mattie’s pony towards the town.  Suddenly the pony starts to slow down and hits the floor. The marshal ends up shooting Mattie’s pony with his gun and gets Mattie angry.  Yet, he still had to get her into town as fast as he could.  He ends up carrying her the rest of the way.  The last scene shows Mattie narrating about ordeal to kill Tom Chaney and how she loses her arm.

The “True Grit” movie followed the book very closely.  I think there were just a few minor details left out and it did not impact the movie that much for it to not become a great movie from a book.

Week #4 The Society of the Cross Keys

The Society of the Crossed Keys is a selection of writings by Stefan Zweig.  These writings were interesting pieces about Eastern Europe before World War I.  The narrator I assume is Stefan Zweig who describes the world around him growing up in the Austrian Monarchy outside of Vienna in the Jewish communities. His father came from Monrovia and his mother from Italy. His words describe what went on within these communities and how they managed to survive within a very structured Viennese culture and still remain East Orthodox Jewish. Mr. Zweig had a very unique way of describing the different aspects of Eastern Europe that you would understand as the lower class people, the middle class, and the aristocratic class in this time. He describes his family’s cosmopolitan views and how it played into his views of the world. He describes the Jewish view of valuing the intellectual in the arts, the music, the poets and the writers rather than being a successful banker or businessman or pedaler.  It was a very interesting picture he painted with these words of Eastern Europe at that time.

In another of Mr. Zweig’s writings, he talks about himself becoming a poet and writer. He was suppose to go to the University, but manages to start writing poems and gets them published.  He does everything but go to school and hangs out at cafes and in small groups of writers and poets.  Mr. Zweig gives great descriptions of what it was like to be in Europe pre-World War I and of the people within the different classes at that time.

The descriptive writings of Eastern Europe by Mr. Zweig were the inspirations for the movie: The Grand Budapest Hotel” produced by Wes Andersen. This is a zany movie about a Lobby Boy, Zero and his mentor, Mr. Gustav, a concierge, at the Grand Budapest Hotel, who steal an expensive Renaissance artwork before World War I starts and tries to keep it hidden. The movie draws on pre-World War Eastern Europe with it aristocratic society that Mr. Zweig describes in his writings. The movie also uses characters from Mr. Zweig’s writings to describe the behaviors of people in that time. I think the writings of Mr. Zweig really helped Wes Andersen create this comedy about people in a fictional place.

5 important values

1. Goals
2. Sports
3. Tradition
4. Ocean
5. Game play

The most important values would be the ocean, because I use to live right next to it in Hawaii. While I was a child I enjoy going to the beach. I always like to swim and see the wonderful colors at bottom of the coral reefs.  So right now I use this reference to inspire my emotion in my art. I wanted my audience to experience the wonderful part of the ocean and how it effects their feelings.

screenplays

The reading that I chose was Anniversary Party
Set Design

The story talks about a couple named Joe and Sally, who are living in this wonderful house. They invite friends over for an anniversary party. The story basically takes you on a journey through their house.  It talks about the two main characters having sex in this house and just having fun.

In the first part of the story, the set design shows Sally lying on the bed looking at her husband. The sunlight filters through the bedroom shades.

The next scene is set up in the pool area.  Both Joe and Sally are standing on mats doing yoga. Then the story focuses on the main rooms in the house. The large living room has hardwood floors that are dominated by a huge fireplace.  The other side is an equally large dining room. In both rooms, there are floor to ceiling windows overlooking the back porch garden pool. The house is classically Neutra.

In the next scene, we see America and Rosa struggling up the steps of the back porch and through the sliding glass door carrying grocery bags and packages.  They walk through the dining room and into the kitchen.  Both America and Rosa start unpacking the groceries quickly and begin setting the dining room table.  The scene ends with America closing the dining room door.

A few hours later, America emerges from behind the dining doors. She opens up the dining room doors for Sally and Joe’s Anniversary Party. Inside the dining room, the table was exquisitely decorated with bundles of fresh cut flowers in simple classic vases.  In the background we can hear Rosa singing a Spanish love song to Sally and Joe.

After the party, the camera takes up on a journey through the house by way of photographs in the house.  We see photos of Joe and Sally in formal portraits, candid pictures, their wedding day, their friends, their adventurous vacations, and still photos of them tumbling across of the lawn.
Some of the photos were framed and hung on the walls. Some of the photos are taped to the fridge and others are just simply propped on the shelf. This was a method of documenting their relationship from childhood to adults.

In the following scene, Sally is seen looking at herself in the mirror.  There are two closed doors on either side of the room. The beds show no signs of consummated sex.  Joe comes walking in through the left door almost dressed.  Sally walks through the door, with one shoe off, and the other one on.  Suddenly, both of them are focused into each other‘s eyes.

FFXV Trailer

Final Fantasy XV

The trailer that I choose was Final Fantasy XV because I liked the artwork.
The game originated from Square Enix.  Square Enix is one of my favorite game companies because the artwork is awesome and the game designs are interesting.
I hope to someday work there in the future.

In this trailer, it is a about young prince who is about to lose his kingdom to Niflheim.  Niflheim was taking over the kingdom by taking control of the Crystal Gods. The young prince must stop Niflheim and save the Crystal Gods.

The things I like about the game are the animation, the character designs and the environment.  The animations of the fight scenes make the gamer feel like he is
part of this fantasy world.  The character designs used parts of the human anatomy to make it look very realistic and awesome.  The environment was structure like the modern world but decorated in a punk motif or as a punk version

The only problems I have had with the Final Fantasy games are the storylines.
The storylines are a bit confusing and did not make sense. In some of the games there are glitches in the game play.
